The FSA has issued two recall notices on behalf of fitness food company Dr Zak's.

The initial recall involved a batch of barn farmed liquid egg white, which the company said had been found to contain salmonella.

Four days later it issued a recall for a second batch, which also contained salmonella.

The company said other batches were also being recalled as a precaution.

The FSA has advised anyone who has bought the product not to eat it. It should be returned to the store where it was bought for a full refund.

Similar warnings have been issued by the Food Standards Agency in Ireland.

Food safety scheme British Lion says that the liquid egg was made in France.

It said in a statement that it was now renewing its call for the European Union to raise egg and egg processing safety standards across Europe.

It said: "This recall is the latest in a long line of safety issues related to non-UK egg products and follows the publication of a 2016 Government report which highlighted three separate cases involving salmonella in imported egg products, noting that pasteurised egg can carry a food safety risk.

"The report confirmed that the risk from domestically produced egg products will be lower."
