Generous competition winner to host charity triathlon event with help from Porc.Wales

"I'm delighted to win the competition, pork is my favourite meat, especially if reared in Wales!"

Ceri Phillips from Llanrwst, Conwy, won a social media competition earlier this month with Porc.Wales as part of its ‘Porximity’ campaign, which encourages people to buy Pork from Wales at local suppliers.

The prize was a hog roast which she’ll use for an event in aid of Welsh Friends of Nepal.

Porc.Wales’ ‘Hog It!’ competition required participants to enter the location of an upcoming event they’re hosting on the new ‘Porximity’ search function on the Porc.Wales website, and tweet their local Pork from Wales supplier tagging @Porc_Wales and using the hashtag #HogIt.

Ceri Phillips won the competition after tagging her local supplier Moch Cymreig Fedwen.

Miss Phillips, an Art Associate working on a regeneration project for Gwynedd Council, intends to use the hog roast at a charity event in aid of Welsh Friends of Nepal, a charity she and Ian Roberts from Llanrwst and set up after the Nepal earthquake in 2015.

A friend of Ceri’s, Rob Boyns from Ruthin, is competing in his fourth Ironman challenge this year raising money for Welsh Friends of Nepal.

To celebrate and congratulate Rob’s fourth Ironman (on September 18th) they plan to arrange an event with a mini triathlon competition, and the hog roast to feed the hungry guests.

Helping local produce and Welsh meat

On winning, Ceri Phillips said: "I'm delighted to win the competition, pork is my favourite meat, especially if reared in Wales!

"But most of all it's great to have these sorts of campaigns to help promote local produce and Welsh meat.

"It's so important to source local produce from local suppliers; you know exactly what journey that food has taken to get to your plate, and it supports the local economy and farmers.

"The quality of local produce in Wales is very high and that needs to be celebrated and promoted."

Melanie Cargill, from Hybu Cig Cymru, the levy body behind the Porc.Wales campaign, said: "It’s great to see that our competition prize is being used for a very worthy cause!

"It sounds as though Ceri’s guests will be working up an appetite in the mini triathlon, so we do hope they enjoy the delights of eating Pork from Wales, reared in an outstanding environment."
