Lion quality producers target health professionals

“Eat an Egg a Day” was the rallying cry given to delegates at the Community Practitioner and Health Visitor Association Conference last week. As a follow-up to a consumer campaign launched as part of British Egg Week, conference delegates, who included dieticians, community nurses and nutritionists, were invited to take the message back to their surgeries.

Lion Quality egg producers have increasingly targeted health professionals in an attempt to address some of the myths that surround eggs, particularly over cholesterol. However, the focus of the campaign has now shifted from being able to eat an egg a day to encouraging people to include an egg a day in their diet.

The latest activity aims to build on an activity that saw 200,000 Good Egg leaflets distributed to GP surgeries across the UK between April and September and an exhibition stand at September’s Royal College of Nursing Congress.

Andrew Parker, Chairman of the British Egg Industry Council, said: “The news about eggs is so positive that we have gone onto the front foot to get the messages about the role eggs can play in a healthy diet. We believe that health professionals can be ambassadors for eggs and spread the message to a much wider audience.”
