A cow has been found with part of its face and tongue removed in what the police describe as an 'unusual and distressing' crime.

Avon and Somerset police are appealing to the public for information following the incident near Charmy Down.

During a livestock check, a farmer found one of the cattle deceased. Parts of the animal’s face and the tongue had been removed with a significant degree of precision.

The police believe this happened overnight 10/11 June.

A police statement said: "This is an unusual and distressing incident and we are keen to hear from anyone who may have information."

A lamb was then found shot in a field near Sherborne with what police believe was a high-powered rifle.

The police believe the lamb also suffered its injuries overnight 24 hours later on Sunday June 11.
