NFU Vice President to address farming summit

New NFU Vice President Adam Quinney will make his first official speech since taking office at a farming summit in London today (Wednesday).

Mr Quinney will address an audience of researchers, business and trade associations from across the agri food chain at the Farming, Food and Drink ’innovate for growth’ summit.

Focusing on ways to reduce costs and improve future sustainability of beef herds, Mr Quinney will look at ways of utilising farming expertise from abroad to make beef herds more economically and genetically viable.

’The UK farming industry faces the challenge of lifting agricultural productivity at the same time as reducing our environmental footprint, with diminishing, more costly natural resources and a finite amount of agricultural land,’ said Mr Quinney.

’Our industry is constantly evolving and farmers are natural innovators, so the role of science and innovation will be crucial in helping us step up to this challenge.

’Facing ever increasing costs, farmers will want to utilise new farm management techniques as well as improvements in genetics to increase the quality of produce. This, in turn, will mean we continue to provide high quality affordable food to the consumer.’
