Machinery giant New Holland has won a major design award for its methane powered concept tractor.

New Holland received the 'Good Design Award' from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

The international jury panel of design professionals awarded the tractor because it 're-imagines tractor design and pioneers alternative fuel technology in agriculture'.

New Holland said it imagines the farm of the future as being completely energy independent, and that such a self-sufficient future is achievable today.

Operating costs are reduced by 30% and it produces only 20% of the pollution emissions compared a conventional diesel-powered tractor.

The Methane Powered Concept Tractor was one of the product designs selected by the jury from a record number of submissions from the world’s leading manufacturers from over 47 countries.

The award recognises the most innovative and cutting-edge industrial, product, and graphic designs produced around the world.

Carlo Lambro, New Holland Brand President, said: “This prestigious award recognises New Holland’s innovative and pioneering approach to futuristic design: the use of technologically advanced materials to enhance the operating environment, the ultimate visibility of the fully glazed cab, the ergonomic, intuitive and connected operation provide a glimpse into New Holland’s vision for the future of tractor design.

“The Methane Powered Concept Tractor pushes the boundaries of alternative fuel and agriculture technologies to deliver a cutting-edge solution for sustainable and efficient farming.”
