New maize guide offers farmers view points

A new forage maize growing guide based on UK farmer experiences across a spectrum of crop management topics has been published by British Seed Houses and is now available free of charge.

"Making the most of your maize" is introduced by Professor David Beever of the Centre for Dairy Research (CEDAR) and brings together a cross section of case studies from favourable and more marginal maize growing areas.

Included in the booklet is an article focusing specifically on growing maize to Environment Agency guidelines and another looking at how to grow maize successfully in an organic system. Other articles cover optimum land use - where maize is drilled after first cut grass silage and/or harvested prior to autumn reseeding - and making a success of maize in a marginal area. All articles are written from a farmer's perspective and offer a practical insight into these specific issues.
