Sheep keepers have been reminded that movement licences must accompany sheep whilst animals are in transit, at a recent NFU Cymru meeting for Monmouthshire and Glamorgan members.
Held at the Monmouth Livestock Centre, members were given the opportunity to learn about the new sheep recording and reporting requirements that came into force earlier this year.
Jonathan Pryce, EID Cymru said: “Whilst EID Cymru has been launched and it is an online service – for sheep movements to and from market, abattoir, collection centres or private movements – it is vital that farmers carry a movement document during transit. The movement document remains a legal requirement and the movement license also holds important information in relation to Food Chain Information.
“If producers wish to use the EID Cymru system, there is a method to print off a paper copy of the license for the haulier and receiving keeper. Or producers can continue to use the paper form of the licence.”
The EID Cymru website is now up and running and it allows keepers to report movements electronically, confirm movements and access historic movements. Sheep keepers must ensure that the number of animals on the movement license is accurate in order for on farm flock records to be accurate if an inspection were to occur.
Gary Yeomans, Monmouthshire NFU Cymru county Chairman said: “We have learnt a lot about the reporting of movements and I hope farmers are assured that they can continue to use the paper AML forms or progress to the online system. The take home message is however that whilst EID Cymru is up and running – a movement document must still accompany all movements.”
