Thieves have stolen more than £6,000 worth of machinery from a farm in Scotland.

The farm near, Coupar Angus in Perth and Kinross, was raided overnight between October 27 and October 28.

Thieves stole more than 20 pieces of equipment, including chainsaws, strimmers, angle grinders, reciprocating saws, cordless drills, strimmers, an electrical transformer, a space heater, a Yamaha boat engine, and 100 litres of diesel.

Police Scotland is urging farmers and rural homeowners to double check on the security of their outbuildings, barns and sheds following the theft, and is asking anyone with any information to get in touch.

The NFU has said criminals are treating rural businesses and farmers as 'criminal tourism', a report has said outlining the true human cost of rural crime.

A survey released in May showed showed 56% of respondents have been a victim of rural crime in the past 12 months.

The cost of rural crime in the UK reached £42.5 million in 2015.

The NFU is asking Government and the Home Office to ensure increased and fairer funding for rural policing.
