Three pregnant sheep have died and one left with serious injuries after a case of livestock worrying in southern Scotland.

Police Scotland officers are appealing for witnesses in the case of sheep worrying on the farmlands at Meikleholm Side, Annan Water, Moffat.

On the morning of Sunday 28th January, the farmer at Meiklehom side came across four pregnant sheep with serious injuries. As a result, three of the animals had to be humanely destroyed by a vet.

It is believed the animals may have been attacked by a dog or dogs in a case of sheep worrying.

Constable John Cowan said: "It appears from what we know that a dog or dogs have attacked the flock of sheep during the morning of Sunday 28 January 2018.

"We are asking the local community to help us trace the dog(s) and the owner. Anyone with any information which might help in this investigation is asked to call us at Lockerbie on the 101 number."

In a second incident, a 30-year-old man was charged with sheep worrying after his dog allegedly chased two sheep around a field near Mouswald on Sunday 28th January.

Recent dog attacks

A farmer from Greater Manchester had to shoot two dogs dead that attacked his sheep on Friday 19 January.

Dorset Police are appealing for information after an incident of sheep worrying left a sheep "motionless on the floor". The incident happened on Friday 19 January.

On Thursday 18 January, Lincolnshire Police released a statement seeking information after an out-of-control dog attacked 17 sheep which left three of them dead.

On 16 January, Lancashire Police released a photo of an unattended dog attacking sheep on Lancashire farmland.

Earlier in January, a farmer shared images showing her dead sheep which gained considerable coverage on social media, having been shared more than 10,000 times.

She released the photos in a bid to highlight the devastating consequences of livestock worrying.
