NFU Cymru is launching its annual award to find the best livestock person working within the agricultural industry in Wales, with the award winner receiving a top prize of £300 and a Welsh Royal Crystal Trophy.

The ‘Welsh Livestock Champion of the Year Award’, now in its third year, is sponsored jointly by NFU Cymru and NFU Mutual and the award seeks to champion dedicated, committed and enthusiastic livestock persons from all across Wales.

Wyn Evans, Chairman of NFU Cymru’s Livestock Board said: “We want to recognise the key role a good livestock person can make to a livestock farm and to the Welsh livestock industry as a whole.

“Potential award winners will be judged on how they incorporate health and safety in their day-day activities on-farm, care and management of the herd, the breeding programme, their handling skills, their involvement in the livestock enterprise, vision for the future of the industry and their knowledge of the Welsh livestock industry.”

The closing date for entries is Monday, 31 October 2016 and the winner will be announced at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair, at Llanelwedd, Builth Wells on Monday, 28 November 2016.

Dai Davies OBE, Chairman of NFU Mutual’s Advisory Board for Wales said: “The quality of the stockmanship is a major factor in determining the success of any livestock business.

“We have some superb stockpeople involved in the industry in Wales and I am confident that this will be a keenly contested competition and one which NFU Mutual is pleased to support as the leading rural insurer in Wales.”
