CLA to crown local champion hero at The CLA Game Fair

A local food champion is to be honoured at The CLA Game Fair 2011 for making an outstanding contribution to local and regional food in Britain.

The CLA Food Award is given to either a food ’champion’ or practitioner who has done much to promote the quality and goodness of locally produced food. Key requisites to winning the coveted award are passion, environmental awareness, conservation and quality.

Previous recipients of the CLA Food Award have included the Countess of Cranbrook, Alexia Robinson, Rachel Green and Henrietta Green.

Caroline Cranbrook said: ’Receiving the CLA Food Award in 2006 meant a lot to me. To be recognised by such a well-known and respected organisation is very rewarding. Publicising fresh, seasonal, local food and explaining its importance to the well-being of the local economy and to the countryside is vital.

’We need to help shoppers make the connection between the food they eat and the people and places it comes from. The CLA Food Award is a big help in spreading the message.’

The CLA Food Award will be presented at 12.15pm on Friday, 22 July in the Cookery Demonstration Theatre. The Demonstration Theatre features a lively programme of well-known chefs in action, including Mike Robinson and Rachel Green, with opportunities to taste their dishes and accompanying drinks.
