The National Farmers Union (NFU) Conference 2017 saw a prize draw worth £7,387 raised for farmers in need.

Rural welfare charity Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) received the funds last week.

A spokesman for the charity said: "As well as providing us with a free stand space they once again made us the beneficiary of funds raised from their after dinner prize draw – an impressive and much appreciated £7,387. Thanks also to the conference guests for their generosity."

The Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution is a welfare charity which helps to change farming lives for the better.

Last year, 18 year old Jack Walton, a budding auctioneer from Worcestershire, set off on his charity fundraiser which saw him travel over 1,000 miles to raise money for RABI.

The charity supports farming people of all ages if they are in financial difficulty and of limited means.

The way it helps includes giving one-off or regular grants, as well as provide essential household items and disability equipment.

For working farmers, the charity could fund relief staff to help in a crisis or offer training to help bring extra income on to the farm. For retired and/or disabled people, it can pay towards care home and home-help costs and it also run two residential homes of its own.

If you or someone you know could benefit from RABI's support, call the helpline on 0808 281 9490.
