The number of clean pigs sent for slaughter in December was 72,000 compared to 79,000 in November and 107,000 in October, which contained five weeks.

14,000 sows and boars went for slaughter in December compared to 16,000 in November and 21,000 in October.

The average carcase weights fell slightly for clean pigs at 76.0 kg, while on the other hand, the slaughter weight for sows and boars rose fairly sharply at 156.5 kg.

Overall, the UK produced 55,000 tonnes of pig meat in December, compared to 60,000 tonnes in November, 73,000 tonnes in October and 59,000 tonnes in September.
