UNITED STATES-THE ANGUS BURGER.

Hearty eaters start your engines. Dallas-area McDonald’s restaurants (NYSE:MCD) plan to launch a 1/3-pound Angus beef burger this summer - just as you were trying to fit into a swim suit.

"We’re going to have the product in June," said Dallas restaurateur Ed Bailey, who owns 63 local McDonald’s.

In test for years, an expanded roll-out of the premium-beef burger has been stalled by equipment issues, he said.

Bailey said the burger, made from a more expensive cut of beef than other McDonald’s sandwiches, will be "the most expensive burger on the menu," though he he has not yet decided on a price. In other test markets, including New York and Southern California, the Angus burger has sold for about $4.00.

Even with the nation still in the maw of a stubborn recession, Bailey thinks the burger will sell.

"I think there’s a consumer who wants a larger portion," said Bailey. "The results in other [test] markets have been very positive. There seems to be consumer demand for it."

A McDonald’s spokeswoman declined to say whether the Dallas offering will be an expansion of the previous test markets or the beginning of a national roll-out.
