DEATH SENTENCE IN MILK SCANDAL.

The seven defendants in the Chinese milk scandal concerning Sunlu Foods, were sentenced in court on Thursday.

The case of adding melamine to milk to raise protein levels, caused 6 babies to die from formula milk, forming crystals in the babies kidneys, 52,000 infants were hospitalized but made full recoveries and an estimated 290,000 infants were sick.

Sunlu was the largest dairy company in China and 40% owned by a New Zealand company.

Three defendants were sentenced to death, two more defendants received life in prison and the remaining two were given fifteen years and five years in prison respectively.


The CEO of the company, who had pleaded guilty to knowingly selling the contaminated milk, has been to be sentenced to life in prison and spared the death penalty.
