Russia-New meat import deal with United States.

RUSSIA AND US TO SIGN NEW MEAT DEAL.

The Economic Council of the government of Russia, announced on Tuesday a new deal has been signed with government of the United States, in regards to the import of pork and poultry.

It has been agreed that the poultry quota will be cut, also that any pork supplied over the allocated quota, will have an increased import duty. Under the deal Russia can increase the duty by between 75 and 90 %, on pork supplied over the agreed quota.

Maxim Medvedkov, the head of the ministry’s department of trade and negotiations, said "Under the new deal we have cut the poultry quota from 1.25 million tons to 952,000 tons, the duty on pork will remain the same for meat within the quota".

Referring to the ban on 18 US meat plants, the minister re-affirmed that the ban was not political. In effect the loss to the US meat exporters on the poultry quota cut is 180,000 tons, the balance of the cut will go to Europe and South American quota’s..
