United Kingdom-Retail meat prices risen by 30% in last year.

The cost of the most popular cuts of lamb, beef and pork has soared by almost a third in a year.

They have gone up by an average 31 per cent - even though inflation, at 0.1 per cent, has plunged to a 49-year low.

Pork brisket now costs £5.48 a kilo at Asda - up 37 per cent on a year ago - while a half shoulder of lamb from Sainsbury’s now costs £4.98 - up 34 per cent.

Supermarkets say they have been forced to pass on the rising cost of raw materials used in meat processing and farming.

Jonny Steel, of my supermarket.co.uk, said: "Over the last 12 months meat has seen a big increase in price. These price increases have taken effect across all meat products."
