UNITED STATES-HALF A MILLION BAIL FOR MEAT BOSS.

A judge for the U.S. District Court of Northern Iowa on Tuesday ruled that Sholom Rubashkin, the former CEO of Postville, Iowa-based Agriprocessors Inc., should be released on $500,000 while awaiting trial on federal charges of fraud, aiding and abetting illegal immigrants and identity theft.

Rubashkin has been in jail since mid-November, according to a report on DesMoinesRegister.com. Rubashkin has appealed his denial of bail several times; prosecutors have argued that he is a flight risk, as they believe that other Agriprocessors managers have fled to Israel to avoid prosecution.

Until agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement raided the plant in May, Agriprocessors was the nation’s largest processor of kosher meat products.
