200 pigs die in farm blaze

AROUND 200 piglets are thought to have died in a fire at a farm near Great Horwood today, Friday.

Firefighters from Winslow, Buckingham and Bletchley were called to Greenway Farm in Winslow Road at 8.20am after a fire broke out in a large unit housing around 900 newly-weaned piglets.

Fire crews brought the blaze under control in around 10 minutes, and assisted farm staff in evacuating piglets from the affected part of the unit.

No-one was injured, and a vet has been called to treat a number of animals suffering burns and smoke inhalation.
