Agricultural Building Contractor Completes Major Developments

Twelve months on from their acquisition by Wakefield-based Orion Developments Ltd, North Lincolnshire-based agricultural building contractors, L Harrison & Co (Eastoft) Ltd, have announced a highly successful year of growth with a wide range of completed projects in 2008, including two farm storage developments with a combined contractual value of over £1 million.

Working on behalf of Grainsby Farms Ltd, in conjunction with a grain drying specialist contractor, Harrisons constructed a 24,000 square foot building near Grimsby comprising a 5,000-tonne grain drying and storage unit complete with an indoor loading facility. This now represents 60% of Grainsby’s total grain storage capacity. The company provided the same service for A F Dowsons & Son with the completion of a 2,000-tonne grain drying/storage facility and a 2,000-tonne refrigerated potato storage facility within a 20,000-square foot building. Both developments received praise from their respective clients:

"In the past Harrisons have completed a number of Grainsby Farms Ltd build projects to an excellent standard," said Grainsby Farms director, Richard Haigh. "We therefore had confidence in their ability and technical expertise to deliver a design solution that would provide the structural strength required for such a large bulk store. Furthermore they operated quickly and safely within a tight schedule between the emptying and demolition of the old storage building in January 2008 and the arrival of the new harvest in July. Despite a pressured situation they delivered their usual high quality with the friendly and approachable support which we have come to expect."

"We are impressed with the workmanship and service provided by Harrisons," said Ian Dowson, owner of AF Dowsons & Son. "The company offers a reliable build quality and a reliable quality of finish, and they achieved these standards within a tight schedule in time for harvest."

"The work for Grainsby Farms Ltd and AF Dowson & Son were part of over £5.3 million worth of contracts completed since Harrison’s acquisition by Orion Developments Ltd," said director, Jim Harrison. "We are delighted with the client satisfaction achieved by both developments and I’m pleased to hear them praise us for qualities which have been key reasons behind Harrison’s success over many decades - whilst the acquisition has improved the company’s capacity to take on larger projects, we have stayed true to the quality-led philosophy which has always been integral to our approach."
