Agricultural service rewarded at Newark

Applications are invited for the Long Service (Single Farm) Award and Service to Agriculture Medals, presented at the Newark & Nottinghamshire County Show on Sunday 10 May.

The award and medals recognise loyalty and length of service to the agricultural industry, either directly or in a direct support service.

Employees who were in full-time employment on 1 January 2009 and who have either worked the longest on one farm, worked the longest with their current employer or worked the longest with the ancestors of their current employer are eligible for the Long Service (Single Farm) Award, won last year by Walter Cook from Retford who had achieved 53 years’ service working for W R and E Bownes.

The winner will receive the S Snowden Housley Perpetual Shield, to be held for one year, a certificate and £50. Nominated employees do not have to live in the county but must work within Nottinghamshire.

People working within the agricultural industry – either employed or self-employed – in farming, agricultural engineering, agricultural contracting or support services such as agricultural teaching, service to the Nottinghamshire Young Farmers Club or a Nottinghamshire small show society are eligible for the Service to Agriculture Medal. The total number of years’ service must exceed 25 years with Gold (45 years), Silver (35 years) and Bronze (25 years) medals being awarded.

Full information on conditions for eligibility and applications forms are available on www.newarkshowground.com, by emailing info@newarkshowground.com or calling 0870 224 1035.

Applications for both categories close on 24 April 2009.

The Newark and Nottinghamshire County Show will be held on 9 and 10 May 2009.
