BEEF PLANTS PULL BACK PRICES..

With very little interest from Russian buyers and prices in Europe for the best Hilton steers, being no better than the local market for commercial cattle, the beef plants have pulled back prices in Monday.

The best export type steers, are now US170c/kg carcass weight, this is down from US250c/kg in August of this year.

The drop in the price of hides, and with offal filling up the cold stores of Buenos Aires caused by a lack of buyers, the only trade that has any momentum is the condemned liver and lungs, for the pet food industry.

The domestic market is steady, however there has been no lowering of prices in the shops, despite the drop in the price of live cattle.

Retail butchers are charging.

Rump US290c/kg

Topside US270c/kg

Assado US190c/kg

Striploin US330c/kg

Chuck& blade US220c/kg

Mince US190c/kg

Milk has gone up in price from 55cents per litre, to 75cents per litre in the supermarkets, farmers however are still receiving less than 27 cents per litre.

Russian buyers have been making offers for Brazilian beef this week, the general feeling is that after getting the best offers from Argentina and Brazil, the Russian buyers will be looking to Australia to fill the lions share of their orders.

The only thing in favor of Latin America, is the fact that Australia cannot produce enough cow beef for the Russian quota.
