Argentina-Small farmers flex muscle.
ARGENTINA-
SMALL FARMERS FLEX MUSCLE.
The Argentine Small Farmers Federation (FAA) announced on Friday a week long protest starting which will include a lock out of grain sales and road protests the same as last year. A small farmer in Argentina is a farm less than 300 hectares.
FAA sources say that the strategy which has been approved by all members will not effect cattle going to market or the mat plants for sale.
"We are aiming to call and unite both farm and city workers" said Eduardo Buzzi, head of the farmers group.
Also farmers groups met in Santa Fe to put plans into action for more protests in the coming weeks.
Failing global economy prices have hit the farmers very hard coupled with the worse drought in the history of the nation.
Due to less planting this season caused by the drought and the government policies on export taxes things are going to be difficult for the worlds third biggest exporter of soy and the harvest could be short up to 25 million tons.
According to a recent private survey published on Friday.71 % of the people surveyed believe that Argentina is already in deep recession.
One of the large tanneries in Buenos Aires closed its doors for the last time on Friday, leaving 400 people out of work.
