AUSTRALIA-JAPAN STILL NUMBER ONE BEEF MARKET.
Chilled beef exports to Japan have overtaken the amount of frozen product sold to that country, for the first time since early 2007.
Meanwhile, January figures released today show that overall beef exports to Japan are up 30 per cent on the same time last year.
Almost 22,000 tonnes of beef was shipped there last month.
The rainfall across Queensland increased the amount of suitable cattle for the trade, while a weak Australian dollar and reduced competition from other markets, such as Korea, also assisted the trade.
