RED MEAT ACTION GROUP.
The Red Meat Action Group, in Western Australia, are planning to build their own meat plant at the cost of $110 million.
Group chairman Garry Buller said "I think the positive thing is if we can get the new Minister Terry Redman to support the idea the we will have some bipartisan type approach to this one and I think we have gat a fair chance, of sort of pushing it through to a successful conclusion". The group has been angry with local meat wholesalers and supermarkets, in the state for some time.
The idea is to build their own abattoir, by products and leather tanning facilities.
This is not a new concept, from Cork Marts in Ireland 40 years ago, to Welsh Quality lamb in Wales 35 years ago, North Devon Meat in England 50 years ago, unfortunately none of these farmers schemes were successful.
The two largest farmers cooperatives in New Zealand are facing a grave financial situation.
