AUSTRALIA-ABATTOIR SEEKS GOVERNMENT HELP.
A WA abattoir operator is calling on Meat and Livestock Australia to help pay for quarantine services.
A 40 per cent federal rebate for all exporters is due to end on June 30.
Rod Russell, from Western Meat Packers Group, says levies should be used to cover the impost left when the rebate ceases.
"We pay levies at the moment of $17,600 a month at the moment," he says.
"I don’t know why some of that money can’t be distributed to the AQIS fee.
"I don’t know where that money goes, where it sits.
"MLA have a lot of money in their bank account. And we get very little support from any of these agencies to be quite blunt about it."
