Award winning best of British display honoured at Gardener’s World Live

An award winning display showcasing the best of British flowers, plants and produce has scooped another top horticultural honour.

The display, a joint project between the NFU and Waitrose, has been given a gold medal on the first day of BBC Gardener’s World Live, just weeks after securing a 15th consecutive gold medal at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Designer Penny Riley has re-created the stand, entitled "Waitrose and NFU: Championing British", for the five day show at the NEC in Birmingham (June 15-19). It’s again made up of a series of pavilions: four large and eight smaller ones. At the centre is a kitchen and there is also an area of wild plants to recognise the commitment growers make to the environment. There are also beehives, a watercress water feature and a patio area to represent outdoor eating.

NFU horticulture adviser Dr Chris Hartfield said: "Everyone is delighted that the judges have awarded us with a gold medal. This is another wonderful achievement and is testament to the hard work that Penny and her talented team of designers put in every year.

"We are excited to be working with Waitrose throughout the summer to champion the best of British. Our presence at Chelsea, here at Gardener’s World Live and at the Hampton Court Palace Flower show next month provides a fantastic opportunity to highlight to visitors the huge range and quality of British flowers, plants and produce that is available."
