The current low shipping costs, have meant that the Unites States can import second grade animal feed quality wheat from Brazil, cheaper than animal grade feed from the domestic production.

Don Butler, of the Smithfield Foods pork division, said on Monday, "the biggest factor is the differential between the freight rates for ocean going cargo vessels, verses the cost of transport from our own east coast. We will be bringing in some quantities of wheat".

The United States is traditionally the worlds largest wheat exporter, the import of wheat is most unusual
