British growers follow up Chelsea with Gardeners' World gold

British produce gained a second accolade within a month when the Growing Britain stand at Gardeners' World Live received a gold medal.

A team of florists and growers created a modern and dynamic stand packed full of fruit, vegetables, cut flowers, plants and herbs - all British-grown by NFU members.

The recognition followed up a gold medal and President's Award at the Chelsea Flower Show. The team, spearheaded by display designer Penny Riley, will now aim to repeat last year's hat-trick by winning gold at next month's Hampton Court Palace Flower Show.

NFU horticulture board chair Richard Hirst said: "This is absolutely fantastic news and a great credit to Penny and all those who provided her with the wonderful UK grown flowers and produce.

"Gardeners' World and Chelsea showcase the best of the best so these endorsements prove to the general public that our industry's produce is as good as anything around."

Growers manning the stand at the NEC in Birmingham have been handing out leaflets to visitors to promote British produce, flowers and plants.
