Businesses urged to green up the Enviroment

Farmers and horticulture enthusiasts are being encouraged to get involved in this year's annual Compost Awareness Week (CAW), which aims to raise awareness of the benefits of quality compost and kicks off on May 4 with an action-packed calendar of events.

The eighth annual CAW will be celebrated nationwide from Sunday 4th to Saturday 10th May 2008. The theme of this year's week is 'Green up the Environment' and everyone is being encouraged to consider compost, whether that's choosing to home compost, buy compost containing recycled material, or specify and use quality BSI PAS 100 compost for current or future projects.

Compost Awareness Week was originally set up by The Composting Council in Canada in 1995. The week was brought to the UK by The Composting Association in 2000 and now forms a key part of WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) and The Composting Association's annual calendar.
