CANADA-NOT HAPPY WITH COUNTRY OF ORIGIN LABELLING.
The Chair of Ottawa’s Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food is not happy with the US Secretary of Agriculture’s most recent pronouncement on Country of Origin Labelling.
Larry Miller says Secretary Vilsack’s most recent comments regarding COOLs show a protectionist streak that promises to be a bone of contention. Miller expressed concerns with the apparent u-turn being taken by the Obama Administration on this issue.
Miller says it is his personal belief that Canada should resume the challenge to the US COOL legislation at the WTO without delay.
He says he intends to bring his thoughts to the attention of the Canadian Minister at the earliest opportunity.
Canada shelved its previous WTO complaint following the publication of the interim final rule on COOL by the outgoing Bush Administration.
