CANADA is reeling from its first reported case of BSE for 10 years. An eight-year-old cow, from a farm in Alberta, was diagnosed in routine testing. The rest of the 1,000-strong herd will be slaughtered as a precaution. It is already feeling the backlash as the USA immediately moved to ban Canadian beef imports pending full investigation into the case. It said the ban would be lifted if no more cases were found. The previous case in 1993 was in an animal imported from Britain.
