Celebrating six years of the food and farming roadshow

The NFU's Food and Farming Roadshow is celebrating its sixth season as it begins another packed tour of the East Midlands this weekend. Launching at the Spalding Flower Parade this Saturday, the roadshow aims to improve public awareness of British food and farming.

Sponsored by Tesco, the roadshow, which is now in its sixth year, continues to be immensely popular with both adults and children. It will be stopping at a variety of venues including shows, farmers' markets, and Tesco supermarkets. At each stop, roadshow presenter and Lancashire farmer Johnny Ball is on hand to meet members of the public and answer questions about British food and farming.

"British farmers and growers produce some of the finest foods in the world," says Johnny. "The roadshow is the perfect platform to promote the good work that our farmers do in both food production and caring for the countryside."

Johnny will be offering roadshow visitors a copy of the new British Farm Standard recipe booklet, packed full of cooking ideas for spring and summer. All recipes are designed to incorporate the best of British seasonal produce. It also details how the British Farm Standard's Little Red Tractor logo ensures the products you buy are of top quality.

When purchasing a product carrying the Little Red Tractor symbol you can be sure it has been produced to stringent standards that have been independently inspected. The standards cover all aspects of production on the farm, including food hygiene and safety, caring for the countryside as well as what animals are fed and how they are cared for.

The roadshow has a variety of children focused activities. You can meet and milk Annabelle the model cow, see real, cute baby ducklings and have a go on the Friendly Farm Club website, where there are lots things to learn and games to play. Children visiting the roadshow will receive Red Tractor goodies including, pens, stickers and mini flags

The Friendly Farm Club is hosting its own fabulous competition that everyone visiting the roadshow will be encouraged to enter. By answering a simple question online, you have the chance to win a Farm Stay booklet and voucher worth £100 pounds to spend at a farm of your choice (dependant upon availability). The voucher will cover the average price for one night's bed and breakfast for a family of four. Fun and educational for all ages, the NFU encourages every one to visit the roadshow and support its efforts to raise awareness of the relationship between food, farming and the countryside.
