CHILE.
TB REACTORS.
30,000 head of cattle, on 12 farms have been quarantined in the far south of Chile, after several cattle tested positive to TB.(reactors).There is a cattle herd in the region, of close to 200,000 head and the quarantine is a precautionary measure.
Chile’s Agriculture and Livestock Service (SAG), moved very quickly to try and contain the problem The area of southern Chile, known as the Magallanes, has had a TB eradication scheme in place for some time and there have never been any serious outbreaks in the past.
The government is going to monitor meat and dairy produce, the reactor cattle will go for immediate slaughter.
Quarantine on this scale, is unprecedented in Europe or Australia, where the reactors are just taken from the herds for slaughter.
This type of government intervention, could be a lesson to the United Kingdom, who have far more serious problems with TB, than the isolated cases in Chile
