70 sick in China after eating pig organs tainted with banned food additive At least 70 people in southern China have fallen ill after eating pig organs contaminated with a banned food additive.
The state-run China Daily newspaper said Monday that the cases had been linked to pig organs tainted with the steroid clenbuterol bought in local markets last week in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong province.
The newspaper said three people remained in the hospital, while the rest were discharged after being treated for stomach aches and diarrhea.
Authorities have detained three people in connection with raising and selling the pigs, which came from farms in the neighboring province of Hunan.
