Clearer labels on pork needed

The labelling system for pork products should give consumers a clearer idea of where their meat comes from, a Watlington supplier has said.

Former pig farmer David Orpwood, who runs meat supplier Woods Farm, says the current system is confusing and misleads the public.

Speaking in the wake of the Irish pork scare earlier this month, he said: "The current system lets supermarkets label sausages and other similar products as having come from the UK, when this is often quite wide of the mark.
