Commissioner: Modernise and simplify EU budget

European commissioner laments budget’s inflexibility, which leaves the EU "running after events".

If the European Union is to react swiftly to world events, then it needs a more flexible budget, according to Dalia Grybauskaitė, the commissioner for the budget.

She was presenting the results of a public consultation on the future of the EU’s budget, which came down heavily in favour of moving resources away from spending on agriculture.
