Conference on bluetongue

Farmers in Kintyre and the islands will be joining in a videoconference on Tuesday night to discuss the Scottish response to the threat of bluetongue in Scotland.

The country’s chief veterinary officer, Professional Charles Milne will be leading the conference and farmers will attend at Argyll College’s videoconferencing suite in the college’s new premises at Hazelburn, or on Gigha at the Gigha Trust Centre of the Library at Islay High School in Bowmore.

John Smith of Drumalea Farm, of the Kintyre branch of the NFUS, said there had been a mixed response amongst the local farming community initially but they had to follow the letter of the law. Vaccination in Scotland is purely a preventative measure.
