Cowbridge cattle market looks to second sale

Auctioneers operating Cowbridge cattle market are hoping to see a good crowd of farmers today at the market’s second sale since it was re-opened last month following a seven-year break.

The market closed during the foot-and-mouth epidemic in 2001 and never re-opened, but fears over the future of Newport livestock mart has prompted partners Herbert R Thomas and Watts and Morgan to think again.

The mart site at Newport has been sold for a superstore development and operators Newport Market Auctioneers are looking for an alternative site.
