A horse had to be rescued by firefighters after it became trapped in a cattle grid in the New Forest.
The horse was being ridden by his owner along a road near Brockenhurst on Monday when it became stuck trying to negotiate a cattle grid.
The horse was sedated and anaesthetised by a vet before being cut free.
Jim Green, of Hampshire fire service, said many such incidents "end badly" with horses "thrashing so much to get free they often break limbs".
He added: "Fortunately Brockenhurst firefighters kept the scene as quiet and as stress-free as possible until the animal rescue team arrived."
