Delta plans big for mechanised farming

DELTA State Government says its readiness to promote mechanized farming to achieve food security is what informed its recent refurbishing of 46 tractors for use by farmers as well as the expenditure of N600 million on Peasant Farmers’’ Support Programme in the state.

Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Ogaranya Tabowei made the disclosure in his speech on the occasion of the presentation of supportive farm implements, knap-sack sprayers and agro-chemical to Isoko women and youths by the Isoko South Local Government chairman, Chief Askia Ogeih.

Dr. Tabowei said over 70 per cent of the nation’s population live in rural areas producing over ninety percent of the food consumed through subsistence farming with a high incidence of drudgery.
