The chairman of Shrewsbury Auction Centre has appealed for more entries of dairy cattle to meet strong demand from buyers at the weekly market.
For the first time in three months, prices broke the £2,000 barrier at Tuesday’s market. Messrs R. Fowler and Sons of Droitwich presented five good heifers from their Hillsummer herd, the best of which was a Picston Shottle daughter out of an excellent Ninety dam, which realised £2,020.
"Good numbers of dairy cattle are being presented every week, even at this time of the year, but supply is nowhere near sufficient to meet the demand," said Shrewsbury Auction Centre chairman David Giles, Halls’ dairy expert. "This imbalance seems set to continue.
"The only current problem is the shortage of fodder due to the prolonged dry spell."
