The country is noted for its high volume of organic sales and close co-operation between producers and sellers
Denmark is the world’s most organically-conscious country, according to the organisers of BioFach, the world’s largest organic trade show.
The organisation’s ’Country of the Year’ honour was bestowed on Denmark at BioFach’s 2009 World Organic Trade Fair, held in Nuremberg, Germany this past weekend.
’In Denmark, some 90 percent of organic sales are achieved in the conventional trade,’ stated BioFach’s on its website, adding that every Dane spends an average of €80 a year on organic food – one of the world’s highest per capita amounts.
’But the Danish domestic market not only excels for organic products with a 6.5 percent market share, Denmark is also a strong export partner.’
BioFach organisers underscored trade association Organic Denmark’s success in securing close co-operation between the country’s organic producers and the retailers, which has led to a 65 percent increase in organic product sales over the past three years.
