The NFU has set up a meeting aimed at helping farmers find out what waste regulation exemptions might apply to their farm businesses.
The meeting will take place at The Whipping Stocks Inn, Over Peover, Knutsford on Tuesday 13 March at 7.30pm.
The NFU's environment and land use adviser, Helen Little, will speak at the meeting and intends to guide farmers through the waste exemption application process.
Helen said: "Farmers have until Tuesday 15 May to register their exemptions. Almost all exemptions are applied for only once and are free of charge, although some, more complex and considered higher risk, have to be renewed annually.
"Most farmers will need to register at least one exemption of which there are 26 that can apply to agriculture."
The most commonly applied for are exemption 15 (Beneficial use of waste), 25 (Deposit of ditch dredgings), 30 (Burning of plant tissue) and 48 (Rotting down plant tissue).
Farmers can use the Waste Recycling Directory, www.wasterecycling.org.uk to find companies who will collect and dispose of their waste.
