Educational manager to showcase EPIC project
A new Educational Resource Manager has been appointed by the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society to highlight its environmentally innovative EPIC Project to the local community.
Tamara Walters (27) from Lincoln has joined the EPIC Project team and is responsible for promoting sustainable and low carbon technologies to individuals, businesses and organisations within the county.
Having completed a degree in politics at the University of Lincoln in 2006, Tamara worked for West Lindsey District Council as its Waste Management Community Liaison Officer before becoming Recycling Officer for City of Lincoln Council.
She is keen to pass on her passion for sustainable technologies in her new role and hopes to encourage people to think about their impact on the climate.
"I aim to help people understand that tackling mankind's negative impact on the planet can be done through eliminating wastefulness which is detrimental both financially and environmentally," said Tamara.
Much of Tamara's work will focus on the EPIC Centre, the new addition to Lincolnshire Events Centre and the largest purpose-built green event and conference centre in the UK.
Speaking of her new role, Tamara commented: "We will be using the EPIC Centre as an educational backdrop to highlight and showcase new sustainable technologies. We will explain the purpose of the building and advise people on simple changes that they can make to their day-to-day lives or in business to help reduce their impact on the climate."
Tamara is currently developing educational initiatives for the EPIC Centre and hopes to work with various local organisations.
"We are looking at working with a range of different people and are hoping to host an array of activities including sustainable living exhibitions such as the one we hosted at this year's Lincolnshire Show. Additionally we aim to piggyback on events such as the annual National Science and Technology Week.
"We have also been working with Lincolnshire County Council's sustainability advisors who work with schools to help them become more environmentally aware and operate sustainably."
Tamara says she is enjoying her new appointment: "One of the best experiences so far has been a global warming debate by local primary schools where children presented their views on climate change. I hope to be involved in many similar activities in the future."

"We know that Tamara will bring with her both the knowledge and enthusiasm to help educate Lincolnshire's residents, schools and businesses about the benefits of the EPIC Project and will us to help raise awareness of low carbon technologies and climate change issues across the county and further afield," said Jacqui.
