EFRA committee chairman to present CLA member with award
The Chairman of the House of Commons' Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee will tomorrow (Wednesday, 2 July) present CLA member Roger Tempest with The Country Land and Business Association President's Award.
Michael Jack MP will present the award in recognition of the success of 'Utopia', a new-build café in the business park at Roger Tempest's Broughton Hall in rural Yorkshire. The café has become an ideal place to hold meetings and relax for the employees of the 49 companies on the site.
CLA President Henry Aubrey-Fletcher said: "The contemporary building is in stark contrast to the historic Broughton Hall but works extremely well with its simple, steel and glass construction with timber cladding and is the kind of conscientious development that the CLA believes has a place in our rural landscape."
Mr Jack said: "I'm delighted to make this award to Utopia. This is the latest stage in the astonishingly successful development at Broughton Hall by Roger Tempest. The EFRA Committee is visiting Broughton to see for itself the employment opportunities created by the conversion of redundant farm and estate buildings and to meet Roger who has been a pioneer in this field."
