Egg market Report

Sales continue to be very strong across the market. August has seen significant retail inflation as a result of the early indications on feed related cost increases. The retail inflation on free range has reduced the selling price gap with organic and the good news for organic producers is that sales of organic egg seem to have responded positively.

A lack of retail inflation on cage value lines has led to very strong sales performance on caged eggs which in turn has seen cage availability become very tight as a result.

Free range and organic availability is in good balance, with no significant surplus or shortfall

Following the recent unprecedented surge in feed prices, further retail inflation is inevitable in order that producers costs are fully covered by the market. Eggs are still a great value protein, with 2 large free range eggs still providing a very realistically priced meal solution at under 50p.
