A Scottish crofter has died in what is being described as a ‘horrific incident’ involving a bull.

76-year-old Alistair Maclean was killed at his remote property on Monday (1 May) in a tragic accident.

Sources said the scene at his croft near Bettyhill on the northern coast of Scotland was ‘horrific’.

A Police Scotland spokesman said officers had been called to Mr Maclean’s address and are now liaising with the Health and Safety Executive but there were no suspicious circumstances.

Shocked community leaders have paid tribute to the retired milkman, who was well known along the coast.

Strathy and Armadale Community Council chairwoman Janette Mackay said: "I was very, very sad to hear about Alistair’s death. He was a very pleasant gentleman and was very well liked."
