Farmers concerned by CAP Reform Proposals
Glamorgan NFU Cymru members have expressed their concerns about the Common Agricultural Policy reform proposals that signal a shift away from a Single Farm Payment based on a historic system to one based on an area payment rate by 2019.
Andrew Oliver, NFU Cymru Glamorgan County Chairman, speaking at the recent AGM held in Cowbridge said, "The current proposals as tabled do allow for Wales to be split up into various regions and the Union has strongly urged the Welsh Government to carry out detailed modelling work looking at various regional splits to establish how farms throughout Wales will be affected by this transition.
"Only when this modelling work is completed by the Welsh Government, who have access to accurate data and budgets, will we be able to fully establish how the proposals will affect our businesses. At this point in time, it is far too early to make any significant business decisions based on these proposals. The negotiating process is at the very beginning and there is a long way to go in terms of lobbying to ensure that Welsh farmers get a fair deal."
